These words are indeed different from what was stated in Minister Karei's letter, but even in them one can discern the same two motifs: The first, the result is predefined, although not as clearly: "I made it clear in advance that I was not ready for the current situation to continue - and what was not"; The secondHere, too, the reason underlying the decision is expressed, in the form of the view that Army Radio is "... A platform for expressing personal opinions, many of which attack the IDF and the IDF soldiers themselves".
- As described above, after Minister Katz signed the letter of appointment on August 11,2025, the committee began its work. The committee's work lasted about 10 weeks, from August to the end of October 2025 - a period during which the High Holidays also took place - during which the committee held 19 days of discussions. After the original deadline for submitting the committee's recommendations (September 30,2025) was extended twice, the committee ultimately submitted its recommendations to the Minister of Defense around October 28,2025. About two weeks after the recommendations were submitted, on November 12,2025, Minister Katz announced that he was adopting the committee's conclusions and ordering the closure of the station altogether. In his statement to the media from that day, the minister noted, among other things, the following:
"As I made clear, what was will not happen. Galatz was established by the Israeli government as a military station to serve as a paw and ear for IDF soldiers and their families - and not as a platform for expressing opinions, many of which attack the IDF and the IDF soldiers themselves. The operation of a civilian radio station by the military is an anomaly that has no parallel in any democratic country in the world. The continued operation of the station involves the IDF, against its will, in the political discourse and severely damages its status as the people's army and its state character. Over the past few decades, from the 1950s to the present day, many defense ministers and chiefs of staff have examined various options for closing the station, removing it from the defense establishment, privatizing it, or closing the current affairs department, but no process has matured into implementation. In the past two years, throughout the war, many soldiers and civilians, including members of bereaved families, have complained many times that they feel that the station does not represent them and even harms the war efforts and morale, and worse, our enemies interpret these messages as being conveyed by the IDF. I intend to bring to the government the decision to close the station soon - this is the necessary step to preserve the IDF's state character and to strengthen the public's confidence in it" (paragraph 70 of the Attorney General's position; emphases added - Y. 20).
