An association which goal is to protect the environment published on Facebook that the owner of the majority of the rights in the Leviathan reservoir caused environmental pollution on Israel's coast in order to increase its profits. The publication was shared on many social groups by an environmental activist.
The Court accepted the claim for defamation by the association. Defamation is something which publication may humiliate a person or a corporation in the eyes of the public, to make it a target of hatred and contempt due to acts, behavior or qualities attributed to it, to harm its position, whether a public office or any other position, it business, profession or profession. A defense of truth may be raised if one can show that there is truth and interest for the public in the publication that was made in good faith. Here, it is a publication by those who present themselves as fighters protection of the environment for the benefit of the public as a whole, who have public standing in the field, and who are perceived by the public as conducting preliminary examinations responsibly and with due diligence, when the impression in the eyes of the reasonable reader is that the content of the statements was written after an investigation. However, this is not the case and approaches by the rights owner demanding an apology were denied. Because the rights owner clarified that it does not seek to harm the association and the activist but only to protect its name, although the publication is defamation, an apology will be published and compensation on the low side would be donated to a social association.
