Adv. Mr. A.  Amorai: The other half.

The Honorable Judge D.  Chasdai:          The first.

Adv. Mr. A.  Amorai: First, sir, I asked him if he had any, if he was aware of the damage caused by the disease.

The Honorable Judge D.  Chasdai:          Transportation

[....]

The witness, Prof. A.  Grotto:        I'll repeat it, I mean Basically, I don't know of any specific study that examined the impact of transportation in Haifa.  I know in a study that I also did myself about the connection between proximity to roads together with another student at the university Ben Gurion, Proximity to roads and cancer, and we found that proximity to the roads increases the risk, and I assume that this exists in Haifa as well.  I hope this will be clear

(pp. 989-991).

  1. Rennert was asked regarding the criticism he voiced against Prof. Grotto's letter (Appendix 4) as presented on pages 13-14 of his opinion, and he replied as follows:

Adv. Mr. D.  Or Chen:         When you, Professor Rennert, kill Professor Grotto on page 14 of your opinion, paragraph above the summary, you write as a professional in the field of epidemiological research, I find what was said in Grotto's letter unfounded, relying on invalid data and ignoring long-standing data that appears in official state publications.  I mean, you come and say that Professor Grotto in his letter, yes? Not in his opinion.  You say he's ignoring, that Professor Grotto is ignoring the official state publications.

Adv. Mr. A.  Amorai: Yes

Adv. Mr. D.  Or Chen:         You can show me one example that Professor Grotto ignored the official publications that are not to your liking, but why do you say he ignores them?

[....]

The witness, Prof. Gad Rennert:   In all honesty.  I really didn't like Grotto's reaction.  He was the head of the public health services at the time.  I thought it was inappropriate.  I issued a letter about it to the director general of the Ministry of Health and to the National Council of Oncology, because I thought it was inappropriate for a person of his stature to write what he wrote.  Fortunately, he moderated his words in an extreme way in a second document that he published, and in fact retracted his assertion
