An article in the Globes newspaper, September 7, 2004, by reporter Hadas Magen under the title "Good Education".
The article deals with the volunteering of leading law firms in various schools across the country, as part of the "Shiur Aher" (A Different Lesson) association founded by Tamar and Michal Barak. The goal of the project is to bring lawyers and students together, mostly from underprivileged populations in the geographic and social periphery, in order to expose them to basic concepts in the world of law and citizenship. The meetings are designed to empower the students, broaden their horizons, and bridge the large social gaps that exist in Israeli society.
The article focuses, among others, on Adv. Ronit Amir-Yaniv (at that time Adv. Amir-Yaniv was a partner at the Yigal Arnon law firm, and today she is a senior partner at the international law firm Afik & Co.), who coordinated the volunteer activity in a school in the Pardes Katz neighborhood. Amir-Yaniv describes the project as one that "merges populations that would never have met" and notes the acute dissonance she experienced: the physical distance between the law firms and Pardes Katz is only about a seven-minute drive, but socially it is "such a different world".
