Counsel for Defendant 1 explained that the said "interrogation exercise" was expressed only in the fact that he did not share his gut feelings with Defendant 1 and asked him to lead them to drugs; this is because until that time Defendant 1 had given contradictory versions and it was clear that he would not confess to the murder, and he should have proceeded slowly with him and let him "cook with himself" and internalize first (pp. 171, 173-174). According to him, Defendant 1 confessed after leading the detectives to the drugs thanks to his interrogation exercise, because "if I had asked him at that moment to confess to murder, he would have distanced himself ten times from me. He went and cooked with himself, he brought the drugs, he had already brought himself close to murder" (p. 181).
Detective Dor Buskila testified that he teamed up with Detective Hamami to assist Michaeli's retrial and was instructed by him to carry out tasks such as seizing the drugs to which Defendant 1 was leading, but he did not know the purpose of bringing the drugs or what happened in the course of the investigations; Nor does he remember whether he knew that Defendant 1 was suspected of murder, even though he knew that he had been asked to assist the District Attorney in the investigation of the murder of the deceased (pp. 197-200, 202). According to him, he is a detective and not an investigator, is not involved in interrogation exercises, but only carried out the orders of Chief Superintendent Michaeli; And when he went out with defendant 1 to bring the drugs, he was focused on the task assigned to him and did not know what was happening with defendant 2 at the station (pp. 203-204).
Officer Hai Ozer, Investigations and Intelligence Officer of the Sderot Police, also rejected the claim that it was decided that the case would be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation at the Sderot police station as an interrogation exercise, in order for the defendants to believe that it was only a drug case; claimed that the investigation began at the Sderot station when the case of a missing person was discussed, and that when it was transferred to the treatment of the Central Bureau of Investigation he was no longer involved in it; and that the investigation was conducted at this stage at the Sderot police station for reasons of convenience. Since the offense was committed in the station sector.
