Judgment
Introduction
This action concerns a monetary claim in a regular proceeding and a request for an injunction filed by the plaintiff, Yossi Langotsky, against the defendants, Yaakov Bardugo and Israeli Jewish Channel Ltd. (hereinafter: "the defendant" and "the defendant" respectively), in the sum of ILS 474,864 for defamation.
The cause of action was born following a monologue that was broadcast on February 7,2023, on the current affairs program "Sheva" on Channel 14, in which the defendant hurled at the plaintiff three statements, which were alleged to portray him as threatening violence, calling for his arrest, and calling him derogatory and derogatory names, in response to a radio interview given by the plaintiff that morning, as part of a current affairs program broadcast on FM103.
Background :
Let us now describe the manner in which the plaintiff and the defendant are presented in the pleadings:
The plaintiff is a retired colonel in his tenth decade, an oil geologist who initiated and led the discovery of the Tamar gas field. The plaintiff has extensive experience as a commander and fighter and participated in six of Israel's wars - from the War of Independence as a 14-year-old boy to the First Lebanon War.
During his military service, he commanded the Jerusalem Reconnaissance Unit in the campaign to liberate Jerusalem, was awarded the Medal of Excellence for his fighting in the battle at the "Bell" outpost during the Six-Day War, commanded a tank company in the Suez Canal during the War of Attrition, established and commanded the Special Operations Branch of the Military Intelligence, and twice won the Israel Security Prize while serving as commander of the Operational Technological Unit.
The plaintiff served as a retrial re-enactment in the Military Intelligence and as a military attaché in Washington, and served as a projector during the siege of Beirut during the First Lebanon War. At the same time, the plaintiff continued to contribute to the state voluntarily as an advisor to the Chief of Staff on dealing with the tunnel threat, and for the past 20 years he has been a member of a team of scientists engaged in the development of laser defense.
