And yes: "I feel the weight that as far as I'm concerned, this is the Israeli Watergate affair, I understand that such material cannot remain in the dark. I'm a journalist who exposes corruption and conducts investigations... I ask Yuli to stop and put everything on my USB drive, and I have to inform Shimon Elkabetz, the commander of the Galatz station, at this time. I call Shimon and tell him that I have a story that is bigger than me, we have to deal with it... We must meet and today" (Par. p. 164, paras. 3-8).
I therefore determine that Shteif was aware of the improper manner in which the information was extracted from Naveh's mobile phones, i.e., technological hacking and arranging the contents in folders. Her conduct in the framework of the meeting, as emerged from Shteif's testimony, testifies to the fact that she positively approved the improper move, and even instructed Yuli as to how to sort the information extracted from the mobile phones, in order to serve The The investigative journalism in Naveh's case.
- After the meeting at Yuli's home, Shteif went straight to a meeting with Shimon Elkabetz, the commander of Army Radio and the station's editor-in-chief at the time. The two arranged to meet at a café in Ashdod, near his place of residence. In his testimony before me, Elkabetz explained that he had received a "very excited and very excited" phone call from Steif, who explained to him that they had to meet urgently because "I have a big story" (par. p. 396, paras. 6-8).
- On her way to a meeting with Elkabetz, Shteif contacted Hani by phone in order to obtain her consent to publish the materials produced from the devices. This is what emerged from her testimony:
