A notarial translation means a confirmation of the notary that a translation is completely identical to the original. Such confirmation may be accompanied by a certificate of conformity to the original or the notary may record that he did not see the source but only a copy. Notarial translation which states that the notary saw the source is a complete substitute for the source, in the appropriate language, and is also valid for official bodies such as consulates and embassies, including for the purpose of issuing foreign nationality.
We usually use the services of external translators to lower the cost (because translation costs, as opposed to notarial approval, are not fixed in the regulator and are pursuant to our working hours), but will always be followed by review of the translation by our office and also charged hourly. Moreover, at the end of the process the notary public is obliged to read every word and verify the correctness of translation. Hence the relatively high cost of notarial translation, even as required by law.
Note that when a notarial translation (or any other notarized certificate) is required for delivery to a foreign country, an apostillization procedure must be performed. Especially when it comes to a document that is required to be delivered to a foreign embassy (but not only) it is important to check with the embassy or the body for which the translation is required, whether they require apostillization approval on the translation.
Furthermore, there is the option, instead of translation confirmation, to verify an translator's statement of the correctness of the translation. This is a significantly inexpensive procedure where the notary authenticates only the translator's signature rather than checking the correctness of the translation, but it is important to ensure that the translated document recipient agrees to receive a translator's declaration instead of a notarial translation.
Among the documents for which we commonly do notarial translation (in our office you can do notarial translation between the languages: Hebrew, English, French and German but a translator statement can be made from any language to any language) are:
A. Status documents, such as a death certificate, marriage certificate, passport translation, identity card translation, extract from the Population Office, etc;
B. Legal documents, such as a power of attorney, judgment, claim, contracts and agreements, corporate documents, etc.;
C. Academic documents such as a certificate of accreditation, a professional certificate, a certificate of recognition, a score sheet etc.;
D. Additional documents, including medical certificates, government accounts, and documents required for bureaucratic reasons in foreign countries, such as opening a bank account in a foreign country, etc.
