In the 1960s, Israeli song-writer Dan Almagor wrote the song “Ke-She-At Omeret ‘Lo’ Le-Ma At Mitkavenet” ("When You Say: 'No' – What Do You Mean?") for the ‘Hatarnegolim’ Band, which begins with the words: "When you say: 'No' – what do you mean? /What do you mean when you say: "No"? / Is the "no" "no and really?" / Maybe it's just "maybe, but not now"? /Or the "no" is just "not yet". / Maybe it is "Oh". Maybe it is "come." / Because you say, "No," so gracefully / it sounds even more inviting to me than "yes.".” The humorous poem (which was well discussed many years later, in the context of a woman's right to say ‘no’) is very relevant in international transactions, when it is not just about language issues, but about cultural differences, and it is even more relevant when an Israeli is trying to work with a Latin American or when a Latin American wants to work in Israel or with Israelis.
A law firm with experience in Israeli-Latin American business can act as a cultural mediator and ensure that business strategies are properly adapted to the local context, but can also properly draft the documents to fit the parties’ real intent. In this manner, risks of misunderstandings is minimized and the possibility of success in the market is enhanced.
