The Israeli Law of Return allows Jews and in some cases even their descendants (children and grandchildren) to receive status in Israel. The Ministry of the Interior refused to grant status to a great grandchild of a Jew because when the application was submitted he met the preconditions but due to a defect in the motion it was resubmitted and in the meanwhile the procedure was changed.

The Court held that in certain circumstances the Minister of the Interior may grant status to a great grandchild of a Jew provided such is under the age of 18.  Although the procedure was changed the motion should be examined under the procedure at the time of the original submission (i.e. pursuant to the previous procedure), and therefore the great grandchild should receive the Israeli status.
